"La Lettre" Wins Best Cinematography!

We have been working on a ballet art film for several months titled La Lettre (The Letter). The film debuted at the Rebel FREE4ALL Film Festival at Pollack Tempe Cinemas on August 11th, 2011. La Lettre won for Best Cinematography! This was our first project of this type and I think we will be doing more of this in the future. This was a great learning process for our studio and I think we blew away most of the competition with the beauty and quality of our imagery. Our film starred Katelyn Konderik, who was also our choreographer, along with Arianna Lee, Salem Ramirez, and Julia Ruiz. Our young dancers came to us via the School of Ballet AZ. The music was performed by Dr. Lynne Haeseler and was recorded just for the film. The pieces used are the Chopin Valse and Etude in Eb. If you are dancer and would be interested in working with us in a future film project, please contact us by email with your information. Note: We have a limited number of La Lettre DVD's and film posters available in our studio.

Here is a review of La Lettre by William Pierce, Phoenix Indie Films Examiner, August 13th, 2011

La Lettré – Allen Patrou

"A great film to begin the evening with, Patrou presents a very well shot figure study of a ballerina (Katelyn Konderik) in a wide range of moods and colors. Exquisitely lit and exposed, the dancers seamless transitions from the inorganic indoors to the dreamy, misty and colorful outdoors (Boyce Thompson Arboretum) are smooth and relaxing. The prop and dialog (“Oh!”) almost ruined it for me, as this dancing visual delight needed no extra topping.

Final Take – Lettré is a special delivery."

"Cowboy Coffee" Receives Prestigious Loan Status!

My portrait titled, Cowboy Coffee shown below was recently accepted into the Loan Collection of Professional Photographers of America's 2011 International Photographic Competition. Cowboy Coffee will be on display at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, January 15-17, 2012, in New Orleans, La. This exhibition is held in conjunction with Imaging USA, an annual convention of professional photographers and several photographic associations.

A panel of eminent jurors from across the United States selected the top photographs from more than 4,000 total submitted entries at Gwinnett Technical College in Georgia. Judged against a standard of excellence, over 1,500 images were selected for the General Collection and just over 600 (15 percent) were selected for the esteemed Loan Collection—the best of the best. The Loan Collection images will all be published in the much-anticipated “Loan Collection” book, and over 200 selected General Collection images will be published in the “Showcase” book by Marathon Press.

"La Lettre" Video Shoot at Boyce Thompson

We are working on a video short called La Lettre (The Letter) and started shooting at Boyce Thompson Arboretum this past week. Katey Konderik is our featured dancer. This behind the scenes shot was taken by my assistant Mary Norton as she was multi-tasking. We were shooting in HD Video with the Canon 5D Mark II camera, now famous for it's beautiful quality of imagery for independent film. We have a classical music sound track which we recorded live just for the film, compliments of Dr. Lynne Haeseler. Here is some information about Lynne:

Pianist Lynne Haeseler is a versatile artist who has performed internationally and nationally as a soloist, accompanist and dance pianist.  Although trained as a classical concert pianist, the limitations of traditional classical piano recitals motivated Dr. Haeseler to create her own unconventional performances of classical music. Lynne Haeseler Pianist.

Dance pianist a gifted dance accompanist, Lynne has served on staff with Vail International Dance Festival, Arizona State University and Ballet Arizona. She has also been a guest accompanist for American Ballet Theater, Paris Opera Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet.CD recordings Classics for Ballet and Classics for Pointe available at

We will keep you informed as the project goes forward!

Katey's in the House

These two portraits are among many beautiful shots we took today during our photo session with Katey Konderik. Katey is the winner in the dance division of the 2011 AZ Young Artist's Competition at the Herberger. She is seen here on our Garden Arbour and the new Rustic Porch set in our outside posing areas. These two images caught my eye and I decided to edit them to share here. Katey's beautiful costumes are from the School of Ballet AZ, her makup was by Gloria Rogers, Watch for a ballet video coming soon.

Jesse's Fantastic Color

Jesse Fortin is a professional hairstylist and colorist in Scottsdale, AZ and an educator for Goldwell. Jesse will be entering our images in the Goldwell Color Zoom Challenge. His model, Tara, seen in these images, is also a hairstylist and turns out to be a great hair model! These two images show some of Jesse's work from the shoot but we will save the entry image for now until they announce Jesse as the winner! He says, Competing for me allows me to push myself to see my work differently and try to push my limitations I with hold on myself." You can find out more about Jesse at his website:
